1,Introduction

The MEWOI FTB-06 Laser Diameter Instrument is a high accuracy one without contacting designed on the basis of the laser scan measuring principle. The 2-dimension measuring mode is applied to the instrument, and the 2-way laser beam is in the positive cross design in the measuring field, thus effectively eliminating testing errors caused by work piece shocks. It is special suitable for real-time measurement of the production field, and widely used in the test of round wire materials such as communication cables, optical cables, co-axial cables and power cables, and the test of various kinds of other round work piece diameters.
The entire set of equipment is made of the following two parts: the measuring head and the serial communication cable. During measurement, the laser launched from the laser unit will be first collimated by a collimating system, and after collimation, the higher parallel  laser beams will be launched to the uniform rotary scanning lens, and the light pulse corresponding to the width and work piece diameters after the scan light beams pass the work pieces to be tested, and then after the photoelectric conversion of light pulse, is sent to the central computer control system, where computers are used to process data for measurement. Displaying and controling  will be performed as required.
The parameters of the instrument have already been initialized before deliveryed from the factory to ensure that the system can work for a long time. System errors after measurement have been accurately compensated by the computer, the signal identification and processing technologies are also applied to random errors in measurement so that the uncertainty can be effectively controlled

2,Installation

A. The power socket is a 3-pin one connected by special power cord. After reliable connection, connect it to the power of the host. Now, the instrument is in the operation state.
B. After preheating for 5 minutes (30 minutes if precision measurement), the instrument is in the normal operation state.
C. Place the standard rod on the test holder, and observe the display value on the instrument to see whether it is identical to the nominal value on the standard rod. The following factors will be taken in o consideration if there is any difference:
* Whether the test window is contaminated; 
* Whether the environment temperature changes too much;
* External voltage fluctuation, shock and interference, etc;

3,Operation

3.3 Set Operation Procedures
Two-rod calibration method is applied to the instrument by supposing the nominal value of Rod A as 1.003mm, and the nominal value of Rod B as 10.008mm. The set operation is as follows:
Step 1: After the instrument enters the stable test state, press “SET” button and “>>” button at the same time, and the instrument enters the set procedures with the       displaying on the display window on the first line as “AA” and the second line as “00000”;

Step 2: Input the nominal value for Rod A in 5-bit data at the unit as micron. If it is not enough for 5 bits, 0 will be added to the effective data of the first bit; after inputting is over, press “SET” button to confirm and save the nominal value of Rod A;

Step 3: After Step2 is over, the first line on the display window is shown as “BB”, and “00000” is displayed on the second line; input the nominal value of Rod B in 5-bit data at the unit as micron, and if it is not enough for 5 bits, 0 will be added to the effective data at the first bit; after inputting is over, press “SET” button to confirm and save the nominal value of Rod B;

Step 4: When the “AA” twinkling on the display, Place Rod A on the test holder. Press “SET” button to end scanning Rod A;
Step 5: Take out Rod A, and while the “BB” twinkling on the display, place Rod B on the test holder. Press “SET” button to end the calibration operation, and the instrument returns to the measuring state.

5. Points for Attention

5.1 This instrument is a precision one, which should not be used under the conditions of high heat, high humidity, dust or corrosive gas as far as possible,  otherwise the service life and accuracy of the instrument will be effected on.
5.2 The instrument must be reliably fixed. Too violent shocks will be prevented.
5.3 While the instrument is in use, the voltage stabilizing action must be taken, and the instrument should not be installed in the vicinity of any electric devices with powerful electromagnetic interference.
5.4 When the instrument is for the field operation, please note that the measurement window of the measuring head must be kept clean. When there is any dust attached to the window, you can use special-purpose lens brush for spraying and gentle wiping. If there is severe grease and dirt, you can use defatted cotton dipped with pure alcohol and Ether mixture liquid for up and down rotary wiping so as not to cause repeated contamination.
5.5 To extend the service life of the instrument, please try to avoid unnecessary turn-on and turn-off operation. It is strictly prohibited to disassemble the measuring head. Please do not stare at laser beams.

6. General Troubles and Troubleshooting

No reaction after the unit is switched on
a. Power fails to be well connected; 
b. A wrong voltage value;
All display is zeroThe test field does not work or is too big or too small. Note the measuring position and the measuring range of the instrument.
Unstable display
a. Poor grounding for the instrument;

b. Adversely affected by large electric appliances or launch of radiation around; 

c. A too violent operation shock;

d. A too violent environment shock;

e. Window dew or pollution;

f. Smoke, dust and dirt within the measuring zone;

g. Irregular surface to be measured; 

h. It is necessary to replace the laser unit. The laser unit of the instrument is designed as consumable structure. It is easy to dismounte so as to facilitate the user to replace. 
Lock up
There is very severe interference in self-inspection. It is necessary to restart the unit;
